Blog EntryWhen I feel jaded......Jun 5, '08 12:12 AM
for everyone

There are days when we sometimes dread getting out of bed, getting dressed and going out of the door for work. I feel this way at times too. And I'm sure my students feel the same, when class attendance for that day dipped.

However, my mind will change now that I know him. He was a first year student at the place which I teach. He gets off at Woodlands MRT station, takes the lift to level one instead of the escalator. At the exit of the MRT station, the staff opens the door for him and whisked him past. After that, he's on his own as he began the wheelchair journey on his own from the MRT to the school, a good 15-minute walk.

I don't know his name or where he gets the make of his fantastic transport - a motorised wheelchair to save him the arduous task of whisking himself by sheer muscle through the 15-min walk down the cement road, and with 3 traffic lights to cross.

However, he's  on his way to school rain or shine and he's never late. Whenever I think of students who skip classes or myself on my "off-days" of not wanting to go to work, I'm ashamed.

Thank you, because of you, I shall not feel jaded and not want to go to work again. You're an inspiration and a motivation. I salute you.
